Tryout Information2009 Traveling Soccer Tryouts Date: 7-21-08 The Spring 2009 season will be underway soon with tryouts at The Traveling Soccer Board offers the opportunity for players to tryout for one age group higher than their age, but it needs to be noted on the registration form. Any player that does tryout for an older team will only make that team if they fall into the lock of the older team. They also have to tryout for their own age group, which would be another $25 try out fee. This will ensure that if they do not make the lock on the older team, they will have a roster spot on their age group team. The decision to open this up for all players is done to encourage players with a higher level of skill to stay in our program. There will be two tryout sessions, one on each day, and will be 1 1/2 hours long per session for each age group. In some age groups, if numbers dictate, the tryout session may be extended to 2 hrs. There will be no feedback on how each player did in tryouts, only what team they are on and in some circumstances, if they made a team. You will be notified in Early September of team placement via the web site (www.cgsoccer.org) under tryouts. Each player will be listed by first initial, last initial, and birth date on the team for which they are placed. Once tryouts are complete and the team is formed, no refund will be given if a player decides not to play. Any player not making a team will get a full signup fee refund but not the $25 tryout fee. All players will be given a number, which the evaluators will use to give the final ranking for that player. If you cannot make one or both tryout dates you must contact the club Registrar (Kim Brinkoetter) to notify her so that a tryout number can be assigned and it will be noted on the evaluation form. If you are unable to tryout due to an injury, you must contact the club Registrar and provide a Dr’s note. Both days of tryouts will be made up of 1 v 1, small-sided games and large-sided games that will be assessing the four areas below:
· Tactical Action (25%) Decision-making with the ball, Positional sense, communication
Psychological Action (25%) Game Composure, Leadership and coachability. This format is clear and directly reflects a real game environment. At no time will a player be asked to play keeper during their tryout. The evaluators score the players on a 1 to 10 scale with 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest on the four areas mentioned above. All 6 (or more if numbers dictate) of the evaluation sheets (1 for each day for each evaluator) will be entered into a master sheet to determine the final score and the final ranking for each player. The team will be selected based on the ranking of each player. The Coaches appointed for each age group will be allowed to view the tryout process with an evaluation form in order to make their own assessment, however the only input a coach will have in the team selection is to petition the Board to change a bubble player and only after justification to why the change should be made, with final Board approval. Depending on team size the locked in players (players that are locked to that team) fluctuate along with the bubble players (the bubble is the next ranked players after the lock players). · 10 players on a team will have the first 5 ranked players on the team with 6 to 16 ranked as bubble players. · 12 players on a team will have the first 7 ranked players on the team with 8 to 18 ranked as bubble players. · 13 players on a team will have the first 7 ranked players on the team with 8 to 19 ranked as bubble players. · 14 players on a team will have the first 8 ranked players on the team with 9 to 20 ranked as bubble players. · 15 players on a team will have the first 9 ranked players on the team with 10 to 21 ranked as bubble players. · 16 players on a team will have the first 10 ranked players on the team with 11 to 22 ranked as bubble players. · 17 players on a team will have the first 10 ranked players on the team with 11 to 23 ranked as bubble players. · 18 players on a team will have the first 11 ranked players on the team with 12 to 24 ranked as bubble players. We as a board feel it is very important the selection of each team is done so that the best players are placed on the top team. The lock and the bubble, explained above, only come into play if a coach can provide proof of any necessary changes to the final roster. See the tryout times below listed by age group. If you are unsure about your child’s age group please contact a board member for clarification. Birth year guidelines are also listed on the registration form. If you are already registered please come to check in 30 minutes before your tryout time. If you are not registered, please come 45 minutes before your tryout time prepared to register.
