Parent Code Of Conduct

The Cottage Grove Athletic Association Traveling Soccer Division (CGAATSD) Board of Directors adopted the following Parent's Code of Conduct on January 16, 2003. The CGAATSD owes tremendous gratitude to the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association (MYSA) for allowing us to use some of their template for a code of conduct.

  1. Good sportsmanship and enjoyment of the game should be the focus of each game.
  2. The players’ play - Soccer is a player's game; they are being trained to make decisions on the field. Play is quick and ever changing. It's their game, not ours.
  3. The coach coaches - This includes before, during, and after the game. Parents should not shout instructions to their child or make comments like sports reporters critiquing a pro-team. Respect the coaches and their decisions.
  4. The fans cheer - Support all of the teams and participants. Applaud good play by all of the participants, not just your own.
  5. The referees officiate the game - The referees help teach children good sportsmanship, fair play and the spirit of soccer, as well as provide a safe environment for play. Respect the integrity of the referees. Many referees are young and still learning, but doing their best.
  6. Any use of drugs, alcohol and tobacco at all games and practices is strictly prohibited by CGAATSD and MYSA.
  7. Parents shall refrain from all manners of personal abuse and harassment of others, whether verbal, physical, emotional or sexual, and shall oppose such abuse and harassment at all levels.

    Remember:
    No Coaching From The Sidelines.
    No Yelling At The Referee.
The difference between coaching and cheering is coaching is anticipating the future where as cheering is a reaction to what has happened.

Soccer, it’s about our Players
